Volunteers needed for cancer research study |

Today at Memorial Hospital volunteers were asked to read and sign an informed consent form and complete a survey that asks about lifestyle factors related to their health. 

They also had their waist circumference measured and small blood samples were taken.

Researchers will use the data collected from local participants to help build on evidence from a series of American Cancer Society studies that began in the 1950s.

CPS-3 will help scientists better understand lifestyle, environmental and genetic factors that increase cancer risk.

"If you want to be active in helping somebody survive cancer someday or never hear the words "You have cancer," this is a perfect opportunity for you to get involved in," Health Initiative Representative Earline Cuave said.

Representatives with the cancer prevention study will be back at Memorial Hospital tomorrow.

If you'd like to volunteer for this 20 year study, you must be between the ages of 30 and 65, and you must be cancer free.
