Judge Clark appointed to Drug Courts Advisory Committee

The Mississippi Supreme Court has appointed Circuit Judge Roger T. Clark of Gulfport to the State Drug Courts Advisory Committee.

Chief Justice Bill Waller Jr. signed the appointment order April 8. The term is through December 2014. Judge Clark replaced Lauderdale County Court Judge Veldore Young on the Advisory Committee.

Stone County Sheriff's Department searching for two men

The Stone County Sheriff's Department is asking for the public's assistance in finding two men wanted for drug violations.

Lt. Chris Ory said Britney "Shanti" Brown, 32, is wanted for felony violations of possession of a controlled substance (marijuana) with intent to distribute and possession of a controlled substance (cocaine).

Brown is a black male, 6 feet tall and weighs 218 pounds; he has black hair and brown eyes and tattoos on both arms and on his chest.

Eagle killed in Neshoba County; the eagle found in Stone County is recovering

On Tuesday, the Mississippi Department of Wildlife Fisheries and Parks (MDWFP) said a bald eagle was found with a gunshot near the Coy Community in Neshoba County. This marks the second report of a bald eagle shooting for 2013.

According to MDWFP, that bald eagle was euthanized due to severe injuries caused by a multiple shot shell pellet wound in the wings, leg and eye.

Wiggins man charged with statutory rape

A Wiggins man was sentenced to prison for statutory rape, according to District Attorney Joel Smith.

Smith said 35-year-old James Upchurch pled guilty of statutory rape before Judge Larry Bourgeouis Monday at the Harrison County Courthouse.

Bourgeouis excepted his plea and sentenced Upchurch to 25 years in the Mississippi Department of Corrections.
According to Smith, Upchurch had sex with a 14-year-old who became pregnant.

The teen's mother believed Upchurch had sex with her daughter and contacted Gulfport police. They began an investigation on June 2011.

A former Wiggins resident has been sentenced to prison time for home repair fraud and false pretense in Harrison County, announced Attorney General Jim Hood today.
 

Stone County Sheriff looking for suspects in surveillance video

Stone County Sheriff looking for suspects in surveillance video

Stone County Sheriff Mike Farmer is asking for the public's assistance in identifying two male suspects caught on surveillance video.

Farmer said the two men broke into Lake-A-Way Country Store on Highway 26 in Stone County around 3 a.m. Wednesday. An alarm alerted deputies to the scene.

When they arrived they found the glass on the front door of the business broken. Farmer said the business owners arrived shortly after and pulled the store's surveillance video. 

The suspects reportedly made off with the entire cash register and other items.

McHenry woman accused of stealing more than $3,000 from PTO account

A McHenry woman was arrested Thursday, January 10 on charges of embezzlement and forgery, according to the Stone County Sheriff's Department. The charges stem from an incident where the suspect allegedly tried using a check from Stone Middle School's PTO account at a grocery store in Perkinston.

According to Stone County Sheriff Mike Farmer, at the time of the incident, 39-year-old Janie Doris Roberson was the Stone Middle School PTO president. That check she wrote bounced alerting school officials, Farmer said.
