Family remembers loving father Dennis A. Boyd

In Memory of Dennis A. Boyd, who passed away four years ago today February 24.  He is missed by all of his family and friends who will never forget him.

Dennis Boyd was born in Hattiesburg, MS, but grew up and spent most of his life in Gulfport.  After he retired, he moved to Perkinston,MS where he enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Dennis was a devoted Father to Jason Boyd and Julie Boyd, Son to Mildred and Alvin Boyd, PaPaw to Zachary Davis, and Courtney and Christopher Boyd, and brother to Joyce Jones, Marilyn Thornton, and Ted Boyd.

Free rapid HIV testing for the public on Feb. 7

In observance of National Black HIV AIDS Awareness Day (NBHAAD), the South Mississippi AIDS Task Force (SMATF) will offer free rapid HIV testing to the public from 9am-12pm and from 2pm-5pm Thursday, February 7 at its office located at 2756 Fernwood Road in Biloxi. Ten-dollar ($10) Wal-Mart gift cards will be issued to the first 65 “first time” testers.

National Black HIV AIDS Awareness Day is an initiative that was established thirteen years ago by the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and their partnerships with various community-based organizations.

Public invited to National Guard Unit's departure ceremony at Blaylock Park

The public is invited to attend a departure ceremony for the 857 Engineering Company National Guard Unit on Friday, July 13 at 6 p.m. - 6:45 p.m. at Blaylock Park in Wiggins.

The unit will leave Saturday for training at Fort Bliss in Texas. They will deploy to Afghanistan and consists of 140 soldiers with 40 of the soldiers coming from Wiggins.

This is the first time this unit has deployed to Afghanistan.

Be sure to bring a chair and a flag as you honor the soldiers.

February is National Beef Month.  Did you know that 97% of America’s cattle farms and ranches are family run?  That’s right!  We have Mississippi Farm Families providing safe beef not only for your family but ours as well.

Improvements in beef production technology have helped the beef industry use fewer resources to feed more people.  In Mississippi in 2011 the value of the beef industry was $155 million.  

With over 14,500 cattle farms in Mississippi there is a lot of delicious and nutritious beef for you to try in your family meals.

Christmas is a time of giving, receiving, family, joy and making memories.  Unfortunately, for some children, Christmas isn’t so joyous.  This year the staff of Stone County Hospital and Clinic came together to do our parts in bringing a little bit of joy to children at Deanash Children’s Village in Stone County. 

Deanash, part of the Baptist Children’s Village of Mississippi, is the southernmost campus of the BCV and can care for up to 20 children at one time.

Mississippi Unit Returns in Time for Thanksgiving

Camp Shelby Joint Forces Training Center, CAMP SHELBY, Miss- Elements of the Mississippi National Guard’s 1-204th Air Defense Artillery Battalion, headquartered in Newton, Miss., were welcomed home today at Camp Shelby Joint Forces Training Center.

“We’re releasing approximately 70 Soldiers today in coordination with the Camp Shelby Mobilization Operations Center, so that we can send them home with their Families in time for Thanksgiving,” said Maj. (Chaplain) Madison Kelly.
