Stone County EDP Schedules Christmas Open House and Shopping Spree

WIGGINS, Miss. – The Stone County Economic Development Partnership (EDP) and Chamber of Commerce will once again sponsor its Christmas Open House to encourage local shoppers to buy local and to attract shoppers from neighboring communities.

The Christmas Open House is slated for Friday and Saturday, Nov. 30 and Dec. 1 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. Participating merchants will offer specials to Christmas Open House shoppers. Merchants participating in the Christmas Open House will have signs identifying them to shoppers.

Black Friday shopping safety tips

As shoppers rush to make it to the best sales this Black Friday, authorities have a few tips to make your shopping experience a happy one.

Lt. Terry Hines with D’Iberville police said, last year his department received several reports of car burglaries.

Sales Tax Holiday July 27 and 28, 2012

According to the Department of Revenue for the State of Mississippi,the annual Sales Tax Holiday begins12:01 a.m. Friday, July 27, 2012, and ends 12:00 midnight Saturday, July 28, 2012. Please review the listing of eligible and non-eligible clothing and footwear items for more information.

The items exempt from sales tax during the Sales Tax Holiday are identical to those items exempt in prior years.

Stone High Tomcats Football Clinic scheduled for Monday, July 9

On Monday, July 9-Tuesday, July 10. Stone High Tomcats will hold little cats football clinic for children in grades 1st-6th. The clinic, gift and lunch on Tuesday costs $60.

Outdoor Christmas Decoration

Entry forms are now available to anyone interested in taking part in the 2011 Christmas Home Decorating Contest.

Sponsored by the Stone County Economic Development Foundation, contestants will decorate the exterior of their home and
be entered in one of four categories:

RELIGIOUS (best display with a religious theme)
NOSTALGIC (most old-fashioned, best reminds-me-of-my-childhood display)
CLARK GRISWOLD (excessive use of outdoor lighting and decoration)
ANYTHING GOES (no specific theme, but WOW)

All homes in stone County are welcome to participate.

Stone Co. Chamber/EDP to sponsor Christmas open house/shopping spree

The Chamber of Commerce/EDP Business Development Committee will again sponsor the Christmas Open House/Shopping Spree. Slated for Dec. 2 and 3, merchants participating in the Christmas Open House will have tremendous specials for shoppers.

To make the Christmas Open House an even bigger event, they are adding a new twist: The Stone County Christmas Shopping Spree Drawing. During the two-day Christmas Open House, shoppers will get a ticket for every $10 they spend on eligible items bought at participating merchants.

Garage sale benefit starts today

A garage sale benefiting Virginia Barnett, whom lost everything after her home burned will be held on Saturday, September 17, 2011. The garage sale will be held in the parking lot of Virginia College in Biloxi off of Popps Ferry Road. The garage sale will start at 7 a.m. until 1 p.m.

The garage sale will feature: furniture, toys, appliances, clothes and much more.
