Volunteers needed for the MS Gulf Resorts Classic

The fourth annual Mississippi Gulf Resort Classic (MGRC), a PGA TOUR Champions Tour event, will be held March 18-24, 2013, at Fallen Oak.  Volunteer registration for the tournament is now officially open.

The 2013 MGRC will host a field of 81 players who will play for a total purse of $1.6 million and a $240,000 first place share. The tournament is uniquely funded by 15 consortium sponsors, who see this event as an ideal way to promote the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

It's that time of year again! Athletes need to begin training in preparation for the annual John C. Stennis Area III Special Olympics Track and Field Competitions scheduled for March 23, 2013.

Football coach Steve Campbell stays with Bulldogs

Gulf Coast football head coach Steve Campbell was offered his same position at Northwestern State, but has decided to stay with the Bulldogs. During Campbell’s tenure, MGCCC has won an NJCAA National Championship (2007), three MACJC titles (2007, 2008, 2010), six MACJC South Division titles (2005, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2011, 2012), and finished the season ranked in the NJCAA top 8 every year since 2006.

Future Perkette Workshop set for Dec 1

Perkette Dance Team members are inviting girls age 3-13 to participate in the second annual Future Perkette Workshop on Saturday, Dec. 1,  8 a.m. until noon, at Malone Hall on Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College’s Perkinston Campus.  

The workshop requires no prior dance experience and gives young dancers a chance to interact, learn and perform with the talented and inspirational members of the Perkette Dance Team.  Additionally, participants will perform at the Festival of Lights on the Perkinston Campus on Friday, Dec. 7.

Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College:

Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College inducted three honorees into the Alumni Hall of Fame on Homecoming Day, Oct. 27.  The ceremony was be held in Malone Hall on the Perkinston Campus at 10 a.m.  The honorees were also recognized during pregame activities.

After serving in the Marine Corps in World War II, Seay attended Perkinston Junior College on a football scholarship.

Stone-Wiggins recreation assn. to hold basketball registration

The Stone-Wiggins Recreation Association will hold youth basketball registration on Tuesday, October 30.

This registration is open to boys and girls ages 7-15.

Registration is from 5 p.m. unti 7 p.m. at the Stone County Courthouse.
